They couldโve been perfect. In another time. Another world. Where his wasnโt falling apart. And hers wasnโt already in pieces. - High school senior Holden Eastwood only has one fear in life: growing up. He spends his days unmotivated, moving from one game to the next, searching for his next challenge. He never expected that challenge to come in the form of a girlโฆ A girl with zero fashion sense, a filthy mouth, and a bullsh*t attitude.
Unlike Holden, Jameson Taylor had no choice but to grow up. Neglected, isolated, and forced to raise herself, Jameson only has one goal in life: graduate and move on. The last thing she needs is some guy she canโt stand suddenly declaring her as his new hobby.
Their lives couldnโt be more opposite.
Their pasts a complete paradox.
But in each other, they find the unexpectedโฆ
They find solace.
Fragments of foreverโฆ
A forever that might tear them to pieces.
โญโญโญโญโญ My Review โญโญโญโญโญ
Well, I've done it again. I knew that this book would end in a cliffhanger, but I just couldn't wait. So, I read it anyway, and now I'm left to suffer with SO MANY QUESTIONS!!
Pieces of You is Holden's story, and if you've read Leo, then you'll remember Holden as Mia's best friend. It had honestly been awhile since I'd read Leo, so it took me a bit to reacquaint myself with Mia's situation, as it is referenced somewhat frequently throughout this book. Even if you haven't read Leo though, the author does a good job of giving you just enough background that you will understand that storyline. This could be read as a standalone duet; however, Leo is an amazing book, and part of an incredible series, so you should just go ahead and read those anyway.
So, this is Holden and Jamie's story, and it's HEARTBREAKING. Now, don't get me wrong, there are plenty of laughs and witty banter in this one (because Jay McLean is the Queen of that and never disappoints), but there is plenty of heartbreak (because she's good at that too). Holden and Jamie come from very different backgrounds, and when they are thrown together, neither one is looking for friendship or anything else. While they can't deny their growing feelings for each other, Jamie's past and Holden's loyalty are just a few of the obstacles that may keep these two from getting a HEA.
Jay McLean has become one of my all-time favorite authors, and she writes some of the best young/new adult romance that I've read. I laughed out loud and I shed some tears during this one. There is plenty of steam and all the feels. It's a page turner that I didn't want to put down, and that cliffhanger that I mentioned earlier? Well, it's a doozy. I. CANNOT. WAIT. to see how Holden and Jamie's story ends.
