The difference between a good author and an exceptional author? An exceptional author can take a plot that we've read a dozen times before and turn it into an original, one-of-a-kind story. Make Me Hate You proves that Kandi Steiner is an exceptional author.
The story is simple and one that I've read often: girl is in love with her best friend's brother (not knowing that he is in love with her too), brother breaks girl's heart and they spend the next several years apart before being forced back together via the best friend's wedding. By this time, they're each in love with someone else (Is there such a thing as a love square? It's more than a triangle!), but they quickly realize that they never stopped loving each other. Let the complications begin...
What makes this book special is Miss Steiner's ability to take that ordinary plot and make it extraordinary. She makes it fresh and new, makes it a page-turner with ALL. THE. FEELS. She builds a world that you'd like to visit and maybe stay awhile. She gives you characters that you would want to be your friends; characters that you hate to say goodbye to. This story made me laugh, made me cry, broke my heart and put it back together. It made me feel for every single heart involved in this love story. This is true romance.
