Fortuity: a chance occurrence; the state of being controlled by chance rather than design.
Some things in life cannot be controlled; they are guided by chance, fortuity.
Fortuity by Jewel E Ann is the third book in her Transcend series. Although this could be read as a complete stand alone novel, the story takes place almost a decade after the Transcend/Epoch duet ends and it just means so much more if you've read those other two books (plus, Transcend and Epoch is one of my most favorite duets EVER, so just go ahead and read that first!)
Fortuity is the story of Professor Nathaniel Hunt, a single dad who lost his wife when she gave birth to his daughter Morgan. Keeping the promise that he and his wife had made, he has spent the past 8 years traveling the world with his daughter and is spending three final months at the beach before they finally go home to enroll her into a public school and begin a "normal" life. His life is upended when he meets his 40-something neighbor. Gracelyn is on a 'man-ban' and has recently become the guardian of her 10-year old nephew. Neither Nate nor Gracelyn are looking for a relationship, but with their days together being numbered, they decide that maybe a little fun won't hurt.
This story is described as a romantic comedy, and I did laugh out loud at several points throughout this story. More than once, I laughed to the point of tears, but then the actual tears came too. I didn't cry because it is tragic or really sad, but in true Jewel E Ann fashion, this story will give you ALL. THE. FEELS. It is bittersweet, heartwarming, and just so REAL at times. It's a beautifully told story that will tug at your heartstrings and leave you with a smile. Absolute perfection!
